The Mission of the Benton County Sheriff’s Office is to safeguard life and property, preserve the peace, prevent and detect crime, enforce the law, and protect the rights of all citizens. All members of the Benton County Sheriff’s Office are committed to working in partnership with our community, to identify and resolve issues that impact public safety.
The sheriff's office is located in the Benton County Justice Center at 7122 W. Okanogan Place, Bldg. B, Kennewick, Washington 99336. The sheriff's office also maintains a business office in the Prosser courthouse.
The current population of Benton County is approximately 186,486 with about 35,495 people residing in unincorporated areas. The county covers 1722 square miles, which includes the 420 square miles encompassing the Hanford Nuclear Reservation.
The sheriff's office is comprised of 217 full time employees, of which 210 are civil service positions and 6 appointed staff positions. The sheriff's office also maintains a force of 11 volunteer reserve deputies.
In addition to providing services to the residents of Benton County, the sheriff's office provides basic law enforcement services to Benton City and the Hanford Nuclear Reservation.
