The Benton County Sheriff's Office Bureau of Corrections provides incarceration and alternative program services to all law enforcement jurisdictions within Benton County (Kennewick, Richland, West Richland, Prosser and Benton City). In addition, the jail provides contract services to other agencies throughout the state. The jail is part of the Benton County Justice Center complex, located at 7122 W. Okanogan Place, Kennewick, WA.
The new jail facility opened to inmates on April 1, 2003 with 561 beds. With the renovation of the old jail facility, the connected facilities now provide the capacity to house over 800 inmates. Daily in-custody population averages around 500 inmates.
The Bureau of Corrections consists of three divisions:
- The Operations Division is responsible for all inmates in custody.
- The Support Services Division is responsible for all support services, contract services and alternative programs within the jail.
- The Medical Division is responsible for all inmate medical needs, to include medical billing, sick call appointments and medication distribution. The Benton County Bureau of Corrections Medical Division also contracts with a licensed doctor to oversee the more serious medical needs of the inmates housed within the facility.
