The Benton County Planning Department provides services and staffing to a number of different constituencies within the County.
These include:
Within these services, the Department assists property owners, residents, businesses, and development interest in interpreting the County's regulations and requirements for land use related to:
- subdivisions (BCC Title 9)
- governs all division of property, as well as requirements for their design under the County's Subdivision Codes.
- zoning (BCC Title 11)
- administers the process for changes in a parcel of ground's zoning
- enforces ordinances, regulations, and requirements relating to land use to ensure environmental protection, preserves community character and promotes best development practices as were intended by their creation

The Planning Department develops plans for the future development of the County and administers regulations which ensure that the use and development of land meets County standards. The Department consists of Current and Long Range Planning Divisions. Long Range planning includes the preparation, update and monitoring of the County's Comprehensive Plan and development regulations, coordination of planning efforts with surrounding jurisdictions, and involvement in regional growth strategies. Current Planning deals with the implementation of the Comprehensive Plan and Development Regulations through the administration of public and private land use proposals to enhance the County's built environment and quality of life.
