COUNTY AND PORT OF BENTON PARTNER FOR ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT PROJECT

Kennewick, WA – On Tuesday, September 19, 2017, the Board of Benton County Commissioners approved a Disbursement Agreement with the Port of Benton for disbursement of Benton County Rural County Capital Funds to be used to help finance the Vintner’s Village II project, located in Prosser.

About the Project
The Vintner’s Village II project is intended to mirror the original Vintner’s Village in design and use, and will be managed by the Port of Benton. This project will build a single-level, 8,600 square foot facility to be separated into 3 bays of approximately 2,500 square feet, plus additional office space that will be leased to private sector operators to promote local wine industry.  There would also be office and conference room space to support the Prosser Economic Development Association (PEDA).

A total of $1.2 million of Rural County Capital Fund monies will be disbursed to the Port for architecture, design, surveying, engineering, and construction costs, and will be completed by fall 2018. This project will assist in the recruitment of new businesses to the Prosser area, and is expected to result in over 30 permanent jobs in the area.
For more specifics about the project, please contact the Port of Benton at (509) 375-3060 or info@portofbenton.com.

Rural County Capital Funds

The Rural County Capital Fund, established through a state sales tax rebate, affords Benton County’s municipal partners with the rare opportunity to access large chunks of locally-sourced capital funds without having to endure a lot of bureaucratic process or long wait times.  Benton County’s Rural County Capital funds are allocated for each jurisdiction on a monthly basis as they are accumulated. These funds are available for a wide range of projects, which must meet the economic development criteria of State law and County policy. The municipal entities eligible to apply for funds are: Benton County, Ports of Benton and Kennewick, and the Cities of Benton City, Kennewick, Prosser, Richland, and West Richland.
